This photo was taken at the Ocean Expo Park. This is a cool little lookout that looks so much like a sand-castle. I've not climbed up it yet, but I plan to go to the park at the very LEAST one more time before I leave.

It amazes me how horribly this week has gone...and for so many people! Trust me, I wouldn't wish the week I had on my worst enemy, but it's nice to know that it wasn't just me that was getting a dose of crappola.

Friday was all I wished for since about 10 am on Monday...and it came in with a bang. Got a phone call from my emergency tech at about 2030 Thursday...possible bloat. We went in and got everything ready and in walks a dog with fluid on the abdomen. 9 year old Shepherd mix with blood in the belly spells bad ju-ju. The owner thought long and hard and together we decided surgery would fix the problem (I was 99.2% sure it was a cancer on the spleen, something I could fix). The owner understood the dog wouldn't have much more time to live after the surgery, but it would give the family more time to say good-bye. The owner spent about an hour with the dog while we got everything ready for surgery. By the time we got the dog on the table it was midnight. Cut into the abdomen and it was like the flood gates opened. We suctioned 3 liters off the belly, about another liter made it to the floor and there was probably another half liter still in the belly...in lay-men's terms that's a $h!tload of blood! So I get the organs out and lo and behold the dang spleen is fine. I start feeling around (it took about 30 minutes to get a clear surgical field) and the liver don't feel right. Finally get the blood out and there is a nasty liver with ruptured craters, huge hematomas (blood blisters) and crazy nodules popping off whenever you touch them -- something I CAN'T fix. My poor tech had to call the owner and recommend euthanasia. The family came in to say good-bye...it was tough. By the time we got everything cleaned up it was 0240 and I had put another 6 hours in on top of my regular 10 hour day. What a way to start your Friday! I'm sorry if that was too gory, but it was nice to get it off my chest.

Today was painting day at our temporary facility. Everyone did such a great job working as a team and we got everything done in only about 5 hours. It was great teamwork! Now we just have to add some personal touches and move and everything will be stress free (please don't burst my bubble just yet!!!)

I made sure that I made it to my CoCoK's appointment and got my St. Patrick's Day toes...they are really cool! Then it was off to a Soldier's farewell and it was actually a pretty good time. I actually got to speak to the Boy tonight which lifted my spirits a thousand fold...things can only get better, right? ;o)
